After a couple of years where things were kinda crazy, I’m back to work on The Dark Web series, so I thought I’d do a write-up on what’s happening.
As you can see from the image above, all four books in the Buried Ladies series are now available on Amazon. I really appreciate anyone willing to write a review since some spammer went around and gave me 1 star. Even though they never bought or read the book, you find this happening more and more on Amazon as a way to hurt other writers with the notion of improving your books’ performance. It’s rude and unnecessary. Other indie authors complain about this happening to them, so we all hope that Amazon takes on the challenge of fixing this problem in the near future.
Let me give you an update on other things going on with my writing:
Buried Ladies
A Novel of Murder, Mystery, and the Dark Web
I’m currently in the process of re-editing the book as I reach the end of the fifth book in the series, Danger on Your Doorstep (a title suggested by my online group, which I invite you to join if you love mysteries or work as an indie author). I find it really amazing that despite multiple editing passes, both manually and using Grammarly, I still find things I want to edit. An author friend recommended reading the book aloud as an excellent way to find awkward phrasing or other things to edit and Microsoft offers the option to read the text as part of Word. She recommended slowing the reading down a little to effectively edit the text. I plan to do that now.
Buried Ladies sets up the entire Dark Web series, as the first book in the series. Many of the characters you meet return in one or more other books in the Dark Web series so you get to see how their lives progress over the years. One of the threads that runs through the entire series is the strong characterizations provided in the books and it’s one of the reasons I started through Buried Ladies after so many years. You see, I somehow lost my notebook where I kept a running inventory of what happened in the lives of my main characters; what they looked like, their backstory, and their journey to get where they are in Book 5.
Future of Buried Ladies
My goal now is to pitch the book to potential agents. There was some interest initially in publishing the book, but it’s really hard to break into traditional publishing so I self-published. An author friend with many books that are traditionally published started the same way and recommends self-publishing as a means to build interest in your books that agents are now looking for with new authors. This novel was initially well-received by reviewers, both readers and editorial reviewers. Then, a group of spammers who didn’t buy the book, read the book, or write a review, posted some low ratings. But, the book is good, so give it a whorl at Amazon.
Danger on Your Doorstep
This is the 5th book in the Dark Web series and it’s nearly finished, although it takes a few passes through editing to get it ready for publication. Danger on Your Doorstep is a novel about domestic terrorism featuring both white nationalists and a group of black terrorists fueled by an unscrupulous politician who wants to overthrow the government. Because of the political climate in the US, I stopped working on the novel because real life was too close to art to work. I’m back at work on that novel now.
